If you want to do "smart" updates (which just copies what changed on your drive since you last cloned it. and I believe to simply CLONE a drive with CCC, you can do so for free with the trial version. I believe I switched to CCC because it also clones the RECOVERY volume which may or may not be important to you.īut like you, when I make an OS change, I put a system on ice, (like I have my 10.6.8 system in wrap on a bookshelf in a box as a just in case scenario.), So i clone my system drive (in my case a 1TB SSD) to a 1TB 7200 spinner (pretty cheap these days for an insurance policy).ĬCC will clone your drive 0's and 1's (like super duper), which is obviously faster then copying on a higher/folder level, as i understand it, as it doesn't look at the filesystem. I used to use SuperDuper, and now use Carbon Copy Cloner for this kind of thing. Not quite sure how it works, if it does a bit by bit clone, but that would be the most affordable option for sure. I've heard people happy with doing it with just disk utility, which in your case might be best, because you are just putting your current setup on ice right?
